"Water" is absolutely imperative for not only human beings but also all living nature. Population explosion and global warming in future will cause shortage of good-quality water resourse. On the other hand, global warming may also change local precipitation pattern and enhance tropical stroms. There are fears that they may cause to increase in flood damage. So, we have to adapt to these situations by concentrating the wisdom of mankind. Further more, we have faced the paradigm shift due to 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disaster.

"Environmental Fluid Dynamics Laboratory" has been studying on development of new countermeasures for improvement and rehabilitation of deteriorated aquatic environment, mechanism of aquatic environment disruption in natural water body, such as coastal area, rivers, and lakes, and so on. Also, we tried to investigate on the social system for inhabitant's safety lives through the damage investigations for flood, tsunami, etc. We think these experiences may be of use to consideration for " new technology for balance between natural environmental conservation and disaster prevention" in Japan, which is changing to subtropical zone. Let's consider "the sustainable society in water century" with us!
